December Holiday Lunch Summary

The December Holiday Lunch and Networking event was held on Friday December 13, 2024, at Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh hosted by the Chapter Executive Committee. We had a buffet lunch, an ASSP Update by Pam Walaski,  ASSP President and fellow Chapter Member, and time to talk with fellow Professionals and students. There was also a drawing for many door prizes provided by many of the Professionals and their employers.

We had a total of 48 people in attendance. We were happy to have the Safety Committee of the Constructors Association of Western PA (CAWP) join us for the event.

SRU Student Awarded CAP/MBA Scholarship

Congratulations to Bethany Matlos!
She was awarded the 2024 CAP/MBA Safety Scholarship from the Construction Advancement Program (CBA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA). Bethany is a student at Slippery Rock University. This past summer she was an intern with Kiewit. She will be graduating in May of 2025.

November Technical Meeting Summary

The November Technical Meeting was a virtual meeting conducted Wednesday, November 20, 2024, as a lunchtime meeting. The topic was Lockout/Tagout presented by Erin Rymsa, Director, Training Services, Compliance Management International (CMI). There were 12 attendees to the meeting.

ASSP New Membership Model and Advisory Committee

Jocelyn Milby, ASSP WPA Advisory Group Member, recently participated in an ASSP Advisory Group meeting. The information shared at the meeting included information on ASSP’s New Membership Model which is summarized as “ASSP members can now join common interest group and practice specialty communities at no additional cost. This free enhancement is geared to enrich member experiences through a greater sharing of resources and best practices with colleagues on a global scale. ASSP offers four common interest groups and 18 practice specialties, such as construction, manufacturing, ergonomics and transportation.”

Jocelyn is one of four Advisory Group Members representing the Western PA Chapter on the ASSP Advisory Group.

October Technical Meeting Summary

The October Technical Meeting was conducted Thursday, October 17, 2024, as a dinner meeting at the Hoganas Co. in Hollsopple PA. The participants toured the metal powder atomizing plant and was hosted by Jerry Burkhart. There were about 5 participants including 3 students from IUP.
