PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Fellow ASSP WPA Chapter Members,

As promised, the Executive Committee sent out to all Chapter members the Member Survey on August 15, 2022. There was a significant flaw in the survey that was corrected then the survey was resent on August 16, 2022. It was delivered to 776 members and opened by 318 people which is about 41% of those that received the email. Of those that opened it, there were only 60 surveys submitted. This means that of the 776 members that received the survey email, only 7.7% participated in the survey. Of those members that actually opened the survey email, only 18.9% participated in the survey. In my humble opinion, the participation rate in the member survey is lacking. However, the Executive Committee deeply appreciates the responses from those that did participate in the survey. We will do our best to incorporate as much of the information that we received from the survey into this Chapter year and in subsequent Chapter years. The plan is to conduct the Member Survey annually.

The Chapter needs you! We are in need of volunteers for various Committees to assist with the operation of the Chapter for this chapter year, July 01, 2022, through June 30, 2023. Please consider volunteering for any of the committees listed below:

  • Membership Committee
  • Programs Committee
  • ASSP Foundation Committee
  • Social Media
  • Scholarship Committee
  • SRU Student Section Liaison
  • Professional Development Conference Planning Committee
  • Nominations & Elections Committee

If you are interested in volunteering to be a member of any one or more of the Committees, email me of your interest. I and any of the Executive Committee members will be able and willing to discuss the duties of each of these committees. Also, there is some information in the Chapter By-Laws at Chapter Documents – ASSP Western Pennsylvania Chapter or (https://westernpa.assp.org/files/). ASSP also has some information about these positions on the ASSP website at Chapter Leadership Roles (assp.org) or (https://www.assp.org/community-leader-resources/chapters/chapter-leadership-roles) . If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer some of your time to assisting in this Chapter, contact any one of the Executive Committee members listed on the website.

Our September tour of Eaton Corp. Training facility began our planned monthly events for the Chapter year. Attendees of the September tour received 0.2 CEUs. We have an additional event in September at SRU and the SRU Student Section is hosting the ASSP President, Christine Sullivan, on September 19 for a lunch meeting. Check out the information and register on the Chapter website.

We continue to plan the monthly events and are trying to schedule more tours than meetings. We are trying to get more involved with and provide more support to the Student Sections of IUP, SRU, and Thiel College. If you have ideas for tours or meetings, recommendations for tours or speakers, or ideas for tours or meetings contact any one of the Executive Committee members listed on the website.
