PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings to all.
My messages continue to be good ones regarding the activities of this chapter and the professional and student members of this outstanding group. On a rainy day in February Chris Sarracino, Wayne Vanderhoof and I attended the technical meeting held on the campus of Slippery Rock University in the beautifully renovated Strain Safety Building/MSA Lab. We were hosted by Ms. Cindy Medford, Professor in the Safety Management program and student chapter liaison. We attended the meeting which included a virtual presentation by ASSP President Brad Giles, then after the meeting and lunch, we toured the classrooms and labs at this best in class facility. The program led by Dr. Joe Cali and his faculty and staff should be very proud of the facilities and how it will enhance the learning experience of these future safety and health professionals.  Thanks Joe and Cindy for the opportunity to meet with you and your folks.

On March 25th (see the newsletter for details) we have another unique opportunity to on-board our third student chapter at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. Ms. Melissa Heike who leads the Environmental Safety Management program at the college and her student chapter will host a virtual technical meeting and we will welcome them into the WPA Chapter. Please consider joining us vitually for the Noon time meeting and round table discussion.

Upcoming attractions (sounds like the movies) are planned for April 29th at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport to include a presentation by the Vice President of Safety for the Airport and the project and a tour of the project. We will limit this to 40 so look for the registration and sign up. In May a member of the Pittsburgh Area OSHA office will present an OSHA Update in a virtual meeting scheduled for May 12th at Noon.

We a pleased to note that our own Alec Kinslow has a article published in this month’s (March) PSJ. Please take a few minutes to read this journal article. Great job Alec.

The vVoting for the Society elections is currently open. The Chapter elections will open April 15. Please vote.

Finally please register for the WPA ASSP PDC scheduled for April 12th. An all day virtual event with several excellent speakers. The committee has worked hard on this project. It should be a good one.

Be safe
Yours in safety
