PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings to all. Hope your new year is progressing safely despite lingering Covid concerns. It was great to spend some time with 38 folks at our Holiday event in December at Hofbrau House on Pittsburgh’s SouthSide. We enjoyed seeing not only seasoned professional but also 12 future safety professionals from Slippery Rock University one of our three ( yes three, will get to that in a minute) student chapters. I had an opportunity to meet several of these very bright people and I was impressed. They will be great additions to our profession I am sure.

In addition we welcome our newest Student Chapter at Thiel College in Greenville, PA. Melissa Heike, a WPA Chapter member, teaches and leads the Environmental Safety Management program at Thiel and we plan to have an on boarding event potentially at the College before the end off the semester. It would be a great opportunity for some professional members to visit the school and meet the students. Wayne Vanderhoof and I were fortunate to teach last year at the school and virtually. Melissa indicated that there are 17 students who will become chapter members. Not really sure but WPA ASSP may have the most student chapters in ASSP.

We will have our February Technical meeting February 22nd on the SRU campus and virtually. ASSP President Brad Giles will be presenting virtually at the meeting. Please see the newsletter for details along with information regarding Nominations and Elections for Chapter office. If you are interested in jumping into the Executive Committee as an officer the Nominations and Elections welcomes your interest. The slate for voting will be published in early March and voting will take place in April 2022.

The National Safety Council will hold a conference in Pittsburgh in March 2022 and we will have a booth for the event. Our Chapter PDC planning committee is working on the April 2022 one day virtual event.

Please take a few minutes to read the newsletter and other emails regarding the chapter when you receive the information. If you have any questions please reach out to me at fpsehn@gmail.com. Thanks for your dedication to the profession and hope to see you soon.

Yours in safety
