PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

In the words of a former Governor of California “I’m back”. After more than 20 years I have returned to be the President of one of the best chapters in ASSP. As a member of the chapter for almost 35 years and member of ASSP for over 45 years I have the opportunity to again lead a robust group over nine hundred twenty-one safety and health professional. It is not a job for one person. When I took over in November 2021 as a result of the resignation of Mr. Josh Becker it was not a difficult decision to serve out the term as President for the 2021–2022-chapter year. We are fortunate to have a great group of OSH professional serving on the Executive Committee. These folks include Chris Sarracino- Secretary, Robert (Mac) McAninch -Treasurer, Alec Kinslow, Jordan Crescenzi, Wayne Vanderhoof and Trudy Hayes as Delegates. Trudy does double duty as Membership Chair as well. Great people make leadership easy. In 2022 we will be seeing some governance changes in ASSP. A House of Delegates meeting is planned for January 2022 to vote on the changes that have been discussed in various communications from ASSSP. Based on the information we have received and discussed the Executive Committee is in favor of the changes to ASSP. Change is never easy but ASSP must look to the future and look for ways to not only serve the member ship but also be a viable non-profit organization in the years ahead.

We have several meetings in the planning stages for 2022 and more information will be forth coming in the newsletter. In November we met with the Student Chapter at IUP with 35members attending both in person on campus and virtually. Chris Sarracino serves as liaison to IUP and Jackie Barkus has stepped up to serve as the Slippery Rock University liaison.

Please plan to join us for an in-person Holiday Event on December 17th, 2021, at Hofbräuhaus on Pittsburgh’s Southside. We have been avatars too long it is time to move on and meet in person safely in December. Lastly we will continue with virtual presentation as needs dictate.

Thanks – It is good to be back.
Yours in safety

FOR: Student Chapter Members

WHO: EHS Professionals who can offer at minimum 1 day (but up to 5 days) to one or more students who are actively pursuing a degree within the EHS profession!

Specifics
As the professional chapter we are vested in the future of our student chapter members, and local colleges in Western PA (Indiana University of PA and Slippery Rock University). While actively working with the student chapters we have identified that the students want opportunities to understand more about the profession in real life and gain applicable experience.

Each student will be assigned 1 day to a job shadow opportunity. The Job Shadow Provider / EHS Professional may offer more than 1 day of availability, therefore will host multiple students if interested.

The Western PA ASSP will assist in coordinating the opportunities with the college student chapters.
