Fellow Safety Professionals,
As we round out another chapter year (July 2020 – June 2021) I wanted to share some highlights that we as a chapter accomplished in this crazy year. First off, we are recognized as the second largest chapter in the society at roughly 1,000 members and are home to the top two student chapters with IUP and SRU! With that, the chapter will submit their annual management report in June with the hope of being a Platinum Level Chapter for the first time in its 90-year history. That’s right, our chapter turned 90 years old this year too!
Furthermore, we were able to successfully launch an inaugural Chapter Scholarship/Grant program where we awarded three student scholarships for a total of $2,250. In an effort to drive organizations to get involved with ASSP we also started a Chapter Sponsorship program. We established partnerships with local organizations such as BotsIQ and WQED Broadcasting. Our members were elected to positions at the Regional and National level and the chapter was home to the Region VIII SPY award winner. Throughout the chapter year we brought you 10 FREE virtual lunchtime meetings full of innovative and relevant topics. Lastly, as in most all other sectors, we conducted our annual PDC virtually and were able to leverage the remoteness to offer it to a broader audience.
In closing, I have to take a moment and say thank you to each and every one of you for your continued membership. Without you, this chapter would not be what it is. As we start this new chapter year very soon, I am pleased to be able to lead you again as your Chapter President and as the Region VIII Deputy Regional Vice President. Remember, this is YOUR chapter and I want to make it better for you. So don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas or suggestions. Also, I would like to thank my fellow executive committee members for their continued guidance, mentorship, and commitment to the chapter. I look forward to seeing you at our next event!
