Fellow Safety Professionals,
As the holidays are coming towards us, in a different manner then we have ever experienced, make sure you take a moment to reflect on what we are all truly grateful for. During the past month we had some wonderful experiences with our membership. Mr. Jim Leer delivered an insightful virtual presentation on fire safety for the monthly technical meeting. We had chapter members involved with our IUP Student Chapter for their virtual career fair offering advice and guidance on future safety careers. Our leaders were also involved with the SRU Student Chapter where they gave information on how COVID is affecting workplaces. Lastly, we had members participating the ASSP Safety Focus 2021 as presenters and participants alike.
Our next meeting will be held on Thursday December 17th where Mr. Carl W. Heinlein be providing a Lunchtime Virtual Technical Meeting focusing on “Serious Injuries & Fatalities (SIF) – A Case Study in the Construction Industry”. Registration is open now and details can be found on the website. Remember this is a free event that you can catch on your lunch break, please sign up and join us. Looking forward into the new year, we are going to follow the current guidelines and postpone the scheduled facility tour slated for January but don’t worry, we will be providing another great Virtual Lunchtime Speaker to fill the void.
What’s your legacy?
As you reflect on the state of our profession, I challenge you to take a minute and ask yourself, “What is my legacy?”. Are you happy with where you are right now, or could you take this as a push to make a change? Think about the legacy you are creating within your organizations and how what you are doing today could affect future workers. Don’t let yesterday’s setbacks define who you are, leave a legacy that folks will talk about well after you are gone.
Lastly, I have to take a moment and say thank you to each and every one of you for your continued membership. Currently our Western Pennsylvania Chapter is the second largest chapter in ASSP! And our SRU and IUP Student Chapters are number one and two in the society! That says a lot about our community as a whole and about the educational institution’s commitment to the profession.
With that, please feel free to reach out to me or any of the executive committee with ideas, industry topics of interest, want to get involved in any manner or just to pass on some relevant information, we are here for you. This is YOUR chapter. I look forward to seeing you at our next event!
Sincerely,
Josh Becker, M.S., CSP
